In 1924, George Washington Howells founded Howells Lancaster Auto Glass & Paint Company. The business was multi-faceted, consisting of a hardware and paint store. Howells also sold seeds and onion sets and installed auto glass.

Over the years, the business grew as son Robert R. Howells specialized in contract glazing, aluminum storefronts, doors, and windows. In 1979, an arson-related fire destroyed the entire rear shop and company vehicles. Because of the Howells’ spirit, fortitude, and commitment to the community, the shop was completely rebuilt in less than three months. On January 1, 1995, Robert G. Howells was named President of Howells Glass Company, Inc. representing the third generation of the family-owned and operated business.

With over 20 full and part-time employees, Robert R. and Robert G. Howells continue to serve Lancaster and surrounding counties with quality products and experienced professional workmanship, carrying on the proud tradition begun by George W. Howells back in 1924.
